Vivian Carr Rowe scrapbook

 Collection
Identifier: NCC-0241

Scope and Contents

The Vivian Carr Rowe scrapbook includes photographs, newpaper clippings, and ephemera related to Vivian Carr Rowe's life in Durham, her courtship with Curtis P. Rowe, and her travels in North Carolina and Virginia. Places she visited include Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher, and Fayetteville in North Carolina, as well as Virginia Beach and Natural Bridge in Virginia. Most of the photographs document these trips, though there are also pictures of friends and family in Durham, as well as a photograph of her office and colleagues at the Durham Hosiery Mill in 1938. Newspaper clippings primarily cover the weddings of friends, while ephemera includes items such as holiday cards, tickets, banquet programs, a school certificate, and drawings and poems from magazines. Most materials date from the mid-1930s to the early 1940s.

While all materials in the scrapbook seem to relate to Vivian Carr Rowe, it is possible that she did not assemble the entire book; some sections refer to "Aunt Vivian."
