Content Description

1 dry-mounted movie poster for the 2019 film "The Best of Enemies", signed by Robin Bissell, Osha Davidson and Bill Riddick. The film is based on the real-life relationship between Durham civil rights activist Ann Atwater, and Ku Klux Klan leader C. P. Ellis, who met at community meetings about the desegregation of Durham schools.

Biographical Information

The Best of Enemies was a 2019 film based on the true story of the relationship between Ann Atwater, a Black civil rights activist, and C. P. Ellis, a white Ku Klux Klan leader. Atwater and Ellis were invited by organizer Bill Riddick to co-chair a series of community meetings about the desegregation of the Durham school system in 1971, and despite their differing backgrounds and views, remained friends until Ellis' death in 2005.
