The Best of Enemies was a 2019 film based on the true story of the relationship between Ann Atwater, a Black civil rights activist, and C. P. Ellis, a white Ku Klux Klan leader. Atwater and Ellis were invited by organizer Bill Riddick to co-chair a series of community meetings about the desegregation of the Durham school system in 1971, and despite their differing backgrounds and views, remained friends until Ellis' death in 2005.
