Scope and Contents
The O. Gordon Perry Collection consists of photographs of civic organizations around Durham that O. Gordon Perry was involved in during the 1940s and 1950s, including the Durham Jaycees and the Sertoma Club. It also includes newspaper clippings about Perry and his involvement in civic organizations in Durham and a photograph of Rogers Drugstore from the 1920s, which was located at the corner of Parrish and Mangum Streets.

Biographical / Historical
O. Gordon Perry was born and raised in Durham. His family owned land off of Delaware Avenue, where he resided for most of his life until moving to Chapel Hill in 1953. He was a banker by profession, working at Citizens National Bank from 1926-1934, Depositors National Bank from 1934-1953, and then serving as executive officer of the University National Bank of Chapel Hill starting in 1953. Very active in the community, Perry served at various times in the 1940s and 1950s as president of both the Durham Jaycees and the Durham Junior Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Durham County U.S. Savings Bond Committee.
